You’ll know by now that we made an offer to buy the Tuns from The Wellington Pub Company. Well, our offer was turned down.
The owners have now served notice on the Parish Council that they want to sell the pub. They are required by law to do this as it was registered as an Asset of Community Value. We now have a Right to Bid. So, if the owners find a buyer we have six months to come up with the money to buy it for the village.
Six months is not very long when you’re raising a substantial sum of money. We will be fundraising (that is to say, asking outright for money). Please dig deep.
We will also be going all out to raise funds through a Share Offer. The advantage of the Community Benefit Societywhich we set up is that it’s very democratic: one person, one vote. Look out for our other fund raising initiatives.
We urgently need help with Social Media and Press coverage. These are really important; we need people to know that the pub is for sale and at risk of loss to the village. And social media is an excellent way of fundraising. If you can help, do please let us know, we’d be really grateful, and so would the village.
And don’t forget Sunday August 24th: there will be a street party on Tuns Hill. We’re closing the road and we will party all day to get our message about buying the Tuns across and, of course, to raise funds.
